What Are Sorceries in MTG?
Definition and Characteristics
Sorceries are one of the primary card types in Magic: The Gathering (MTG). They are typically one-time effects or short-term magical spells represented by cards with a "Sorcery" type line. Unlike creatures and other permanents, sorceries are not put onto the battlefield when they are cast. Instead, they take effect immediately when their mana cost is paid and then are placed in their owner's graveyard.
Timing Restrictions
Sorceries can only be cast during the main phases of a player's turn (usually the first or second main phase) when the stack is empty. This means they cannot be played in response to other spells or abilities. Additionally, sorceries cannot be activated or targeted by other cards, and their effects are resolved immediately and cannot be countered once they are cast.
