"This decision was not easy, but it is the right one for me and my family," Bencic wrote in a statement. "I have loved every minute of my tennis career, but I am now ready for a new chapter in my life."

Bencic, who has Slovak roots, has been one of the most successful Swiss tennis players in recent years. She has won eight WTA titles, including the 2019 Rogers Cup and the 2021 Charleston Open.
