Piastri Claims Maiden Victory at 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix
Young Australian Secures First Win in Formula One Career
Race Recap
In a thrilling race at the Hungaroring, Oscar Piastri emerged victorious in the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix. The McLaren driver held off a charging Lewis Hamilton in the final laps to secure his maiden Formula One win.
Piastri started from third on the grid, but quickly moved into second place after a daring overtake on Sergio Perez. He then closed the gap to race leader Max Verstappen before the first round of pit stops. However, a slow pit stop dropped Piastri back to third behind Hamilton.
The race was further shaken up by a safety car period following a crash by Fernando Alonso. Piastri used this opportunity to make another pit stop and re-emerge just ahead of Verstappen. The two drivers then engaged in a fierce battle for the lead, with Piastri eventually prevailing.
